中国の上海に拠点を置くアートスタジオ「S.T.A.Y. Automotive」は、有名なスポーツカーの縮小モデルを製作している。それは「おもちゃ」ではあるのだが、フルサイズの本物に匹敵するスリリングなドライビングを楽しめるよう設計されている。

パワー満載のジュニアカー

最近アラブ首長国連邦やクウェートなどで、その「ジュニアカー」に乗ってドリフト走行する動画が投稿され、車好きたちの注目を集めた。一見すると子供のおもちゃのようだが、実際にはかなりのパワーを秘めていることが、拡散された映像から見て取れる。

このジュニアカーを作っているEnd of S.T.A.Y. Automotiveは、中国·上海に拠点を置く会社。航空宇宙工学のエンジニアとマルチメディアアーティストによって設立され、芸術と自動車工学を独自に融合させたアプローチを売りにしている。

創業者たちはハーバード大学大学院デザインスクール、東方航空の3Dプリンティング研究所リーダー、東中国建築設計研究院公共芸術部門ディレクター、ハーバード大学中国芸術メディアラボ勤務といった学歴·経歴を持つ。

製品ラインアップは、ポルシェ964、トヨタ·スプリンタートレノAE86、マツダRX-7、日産GT-R R34など。車長はモデルによって異なるが約2.2メートル。3000W～4000Wの電動モーターを搭載しており、最高速度は何と時速100km。後輪駆動のためドリフトやドーナツターンに最適で、エンジン音を再現するリアルなサウンドシミュレーターも備わっている。見た目の再現に留まらず、運転の楽しさにもしっかりこだわっているのがすごい。
