この動画は16秒と短いものだが、そこにはタカの仲間の珍しい姿が映っていた。

なんと獲物を見定めるために、翼を広げて風を受け、同じ場所でホバリングしていたのである。その様子がこちら。

While driving across south western Uganda I happen to come across this melanistic Auger buzzard soaring on the updrafts of the steep mountain side. この映像を撮影したのは、アマチュア野生動物写真家のMark Williamsさん。

彼によれば、ウガンダの南西部を車で移動している際に、偶然この場面に遭遇したという。

またこの鳥はオージェ・ノスリという種類で、急な崖のそばの上昇気流にのり、このように空中を舞い続けていたそうだ。

動画は7月20日に、Williamsさんのインスタグラムに投稿され、現在までに6万2000回以上も再生された。

また動画を見た人からも、「鳥がこのようにホバリングするとは、知らなかった」や「劇的な映像だ、優雅な生き物」「驚くようなビデオだ」といったコメントが寄せられている。

ウガンダの「「ブウィンディ・インペネットレーブル国立公園」は1994年にユネスコの世界自然遺産に登録され、その森には約3500種の鳥が生息しているという。（了）
