アメリカ各地で10月18日、トランプ政権に対する抗議デモが行われ、数多くの人々が通りに繰り出した。

50州の2500か所以上で抗議デモ

そのデモは「No Kings（王はいらない）」と呼ばれ、18日には全米50州の2500か所以上で、トランプ政権に抗議する人々が参加したという。

デモ参加者は、トランプ大統領による強引な移民取り締まりや、国外追放、アメリカ各都市への州兵派遣、トランプ政権による権力の乱用に対して抗議の声を上げ、プラカードなどを掲げながら街頭に繰り出したそうだ。

トランプ政権は、最高裁の判断が出される前に、アメリカの憲法を無視した政策を次々と遂行しており、まるで「王様」のように振舞っている。

デモの主催者によると、抗議活動が行われた都市は、ワシントンD.C.やサンフランシスコ、サンディエゴ、アトランタ、ニューヨーク市、テキサス州ヒューストン、ホノルル、ボストン、ミズーリ州カンザスシティ、モンタナ州ボーズマン、シカゴ、ニューオーリンズになるという。

そして首都のワシントンD.C.での抗議活動には約20万人が参加し、ニューヨーク市でも10万人以上が平和的にデモを行い、東海岸のボストンから、西海岸のロサンゼルスまで、全米各地で700万人が集結したそうだ。

「権威主義に反対の声を上げる」

科学者でテレビタレントのビル・ナイ氏は、ワシントンD.C.で演壇に立ち、次のように演説した。

「私たちは、共和国の終焉の可能性に立ち向かっているのです。私たちは議員らに、政府で起こっていることは間違っていると伝えるためにここに来ました。彼らは、この気まぐれな大統領とその取り巻きによる権力濫用を止めなければなりません。王座も王冠も王様もいりません」

カリフォルニア州選出の民主党上院議員、アダム・シフ氏もABC Newsの取材に対し、次のように語っている。

「都市の軍事化、司法省の権力乱用、そして科学界の解体が進む中、私たちは沈黙することはできない。（略）今日、これほど多くの人々が自分たちの考えを表現し、抗議し、この政権が権威主義（独裁主義）へ傾いていくことに、反対の声を上げるためにここに集まっているのを見るのは素晴らしいことだ」

地元警察によると、このデモによる暴力事件や逮捕者の報告は今のところないという。

しかし共和党は、この抗議活動が「アメリカ憎悪」の集会であり、連邦政府閉鎖を長引かせていると非難している。

そして副大統領のJ・D・バンス氏は、トランプ氏が「王」になることを誇らしく思っているかのように、下の動画を投稿。
