アメリカ・カリフォルニア州の上空に突然、巨大な飛行機が現われ、住民らを驚かしたという。

試験飛行を経て、人々の前に出現

その巨大な飛行機とは、「ストラトローンチ・ロック（Stratolaunch Roc）」だ。

これはアメリカの航空宇宙企業「ストラトローンチ・システムズ」社によって開発され、全長はなんと117mもあるという。

「ストラトローンチ・ロック」は長年にわたる複数回の試験飛行を経て、ついに先日、カリフォルニア州の上空を飛行しているのが目撃された。下の動画はモハーベ砂漠に着陸する様子。

エンジンを6基も搭載

この巨大飛行機は、2017年に公開され、2019年に初試験飛行が行われてから、これまでも試験が繰り返されてきた。

「ストラトローンチ・ロック」はボーイング747のエンジンを6基も搭載しており、積載量は22万6796kgと言われている。

しかしあまりにも巨大なため、少なくとも1万2000フィート（約3700m）の長さの滑走路が必要になるという。

この飛行機は、「タロンA」のような再利用可能な極超音速試験機を搭載し、打ち上げるために設計されている。（了）
