アメリカ、ニューヨーク市で突然、閃光が瞬き、夜空が鮮やかな青に染まる現象がとらえられた。

真昼のような明るさになった

この出来事が起きたのは12月27日の午後9時頃（現地時間）、場所はニューヨーク市のクィーンズ区、Astoria地区の上空とされている。

この青い光は何度も繰り返し輝き続け、住民によれば辺りが真昼のような明るさになったという。

その様子はマンハッタンからも見ることができ、やがて目撃した多くの人々によって、動画や写真がSNSなどに投稿された。

空港も停電、30分間影響を受ける

この光の原因は電力施設での事故。クィーンズ区にある電力会社「Con Edison」のプラントで、変圧器が爆発、炎上したという。

この爆発は一時的なもので、大規模に燃え広がるような火災は起きておらず、ケガ人も出ていない。

ただ付近一帯は停電となり、LaGuardia空港にも影響が出て、検査のため約30分間、全ての飛行機が離陸せず、フライトが中断されたそうだ。

そして電力施設での火災は約1時間で収まったが、「Con Edison」では現在も原因を調べているという。（了）
