その迷惑系インフルエンサーの名前はニール。彼は5歳半のミナミゾウアザラシだ。年に一度、オーストラリアのタスマニア州ホバートの浜辺に現れ、換毛期をそこで過ごす。古い毛と表皮をまとめて脱ぎ替えるまでの1ヵ月程度、そこで傍若無人ぶりを発揮している。

ニールが浜辺で安全に過ごせるように毎年戦っているのが、タスマニア州天然資源・環境局(Department of Natural Resources and Environment: NRE)だ。しかし、道路からニールを排除しようとする様子には、「そっとしておいて」との声が集まることも多いという。

迷惑行為を繰り返しながらも、地域住民にはすっかり愛され、名前を呼ぶと振り返るほどだという。人を攻撃することはなく、近くを犬が通っても見守るだけだ。
