陸上競技の国際競技連盟である、ワールドアスレティックス（World Athletics、世界陸連）は10月11日、女性アスリート・オブ・ザ・イヤーにノミネートされた11人を発表。SNS上での投票を呼び掛けた。

今回、ノミネートされたのが、女子やり投げで世界選手権とダイヤモンドリーグ（DL）ファイナルを制覇した北口榛花選手だ。

本人はノミネートすら信じられないと発言している。

女性アスリート・オブ・ザ・イヤーは、ワールドアスレティックスのSNSの投稿を通してファンも投票できる。FacebookとInstagram、YouTubeは「いいね」、X（旧ツイッター）は「リポスト」が1票としてカウントされる。
